Alicia Keys Goes Platinum, Chris Brown Gold, Freeway Settles For The Top 50

Teen sensation Chris Brown climbs one spot to No. 9 this week with 120,800 copies sold of his sophomore album, Exclusive. After three weeks, the album has scanned 525,400 discs with help from guests The Game, Big Boi, Lil’ Wayne, Kanye West and T-Pain.

LOS ANGELES (Map, News) – Not many songs can get Chris Brown into the holiday season quite like the late Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas.”

So when he was asked to perform it (as well as Otis Redding’s R&B classic “Try a Little Tenderness”) in the new romantic comedy “This Christmas,” which opens today, Brown was absolutely “thrilled.”

“Donny Hathaway, Otis Redding and Sam Cooke are my idols and biggest musical influences,” Brown said in a recent interview, flashing a smile as bright as his diamond earrings. Read the rest of this entry »

Chris Brown Clings To The Top 10

In this week’s Hip-Hop and R&B Charts, Alicia Keys has a monster No. 1 debut, Jay-Z’s American Gangster slips to the No. 8 spot, Chris Brown holds on to the Top 10 and Boyz II Men’s homage to Motown nabs No. 27 in its first week out.

Alicia Keys scored the year’s second-highest debut – behind only Kanye West’s Graduation – with her third release As I Am, according to Neilsen’s SoundScan. The album pushed 742,400 copies in its first week off the strength of the No. 1 single “No One.”

Jay-Z slips 7 spots to No. 8, pushing 130,600 copies of American Gangster, the return to the streets inspired by the movie of the same name. Last week’s No. 1 opening tied Jay-Z with Elvis for their 10 No. 1 debuts, second only to The Beatles. The God MC’s two-week total stands at 556,400. Read the rest of this entry »

Nick Gets “Real” with Chris Brown

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Nickelodeon has inked a deal with actor-singer Chris Brown for an unscripted pilot revolving around his backup dancers. The half-hour project follows 11-year-old Scooter and 9-year-old Miles as they tour with Brown, who also will appear on-camera.

The airdate for the pilot, which will air as a special on Nickelodeon, has not been determined.

This marks Brown’s first foray into producing and is his first television deal. Read the rest of this entry »
